The Board and Senior Management TeamProfessor Stephen K SmithChairman Professor Stephen Smith holds the joint position of Chief Executive of the Academic Health Science Centre and Principal of the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College. Before joining Imperial, Professor Smith was Executive Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Glasgow University and was previously Head of Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the University of Cambridge. He has published extensively on reproductive medicine and cancer. Professor Smith also holds several directorships, and is a founder member of Metris Therapeutics Ltd and Gene Networks Inc.
Professor Nick LenchChief Executive Officer Nick has extensive experience of knowledge and technology transfer, genetics research in academia and industry, research strategy development, intellectual property management, partnering and licensing. Prior to joining London Genetics, Nick was Professor of Medical Genetics, Cardiff University and Director of the Wales Gene Park. Between 1999 and 2003 Nick was Programme Director for Inflammation Biology and Discovery Genetics at Oxagen Ltd.
Professor K Michael SpyerDirector
Professor Spyer is currently the Vice-Provost (Enterprise) at UCL and is currently developing UCL’s knowledge transfer strategy together with an effective programme for promotion of entrepreneurship and innovation. Professor Spyer has been Dean of the Royal Free & UCL Medical School. He is a neuroscientist with extensive research accomplishments in the field of the central nervous control of the heart, circulation and ventilation. He has served as a non-executive director on NHS Trusts, and the North Central London Strategic Health Authority. He currently serves as a non-executive Director of the London Strategic Health Authority.
Professor Mark CaulfieldDirector
Mark graduated in Medicine in 1984 from the London Hospital Medical College and trained in Clinical Pharmacology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital where he developed a research programme in the molecular genetics of hypertension. He has been National Co-ordinator of the MRC British Genetics of Hypertension (BRIGHT) Study on behalf of 5 UK Universities. He is currently the Director of the William Harvey Research Institute and the London Genome Centre, Bart’s and the London. The London Genome Centre now underpins over 40 programmes of research.
Dr Susan BrightDirector
Susan Bright is Director of Enterprise at The Institute of Cancer Research, where she is responsible for all technology transfer matters licensing, industrial collaborations and formation of spin out companies. Prior to joining The Institute, Susan was Head of Contract Management at Lonza Biologics UK and before that she held a variety of commercial roles in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Susan has a PhD from the University of Cambridge and carried out her post doctoral research in immunology before beginning her commercial career.
Dominique KleynDirector
Dominique has been responsible for various company making, technology management and commercialisation activities since joining Imperial in 1999 and now heads up the BioPharma business development activity. Current projects include collaborative research to identify new targets for cancer and syndicated research into biomarkers of disease. Before coming to Imperial, Dominique worked in product development and marketing, then business development and licensing. She has wide ranging experience in the sector covering diagnostics, medical devices and drug discovery and has successfully negotiated major contracts with pharma, Biotech and Imperial spin-outs. She has a degree in Microbiology and an MBA from Imperial.
Harminder SinghDirector of Operations Harminder is part of the senior management team and is responsible for the development and management of London Genetics Operations. He previously worked as a Project Manager for DxS Ltd, a personalised medicine company, where he managed and co-ordinated genotyping projects. He has also worked as a UK Sales Manager for Whatman Bioscience. Here, he managed sales and support for semi automated DNA extraction systems and DNA extraction services to the healthcare industry. Harminder graduated from Manchester with a BSc in Biological Sciences and an MSc in Biomedical Sciences. He then went on to work as a Clinical Genetic Scientist at Northwick Park Hospital and Manchester Royal Infirmary. |
